About Krah GmbH

Krah GmbH, based in Schutzbach, is a leading company in the plastics industry. The company was founded in 1968.

Decades of experience and development brought Krah a key international role as a manufacturer of production and application technologies of large diameter pipes and profiles between DN 300 and DN 5000 mm. Krah is the most experienced company in the application of large diameter plastic pipes.

Furthermore, Krah GmbH attaches great importance to sustainability and environmental protection. Krah's plastic pipes and profiles are recyclable and thus help to conserve resources. In addition, they are energy-efficient and have a long service life, which contributes to a reduction in CO2 emissions.

Why Krah came to BSG

About 15 years ago, the first integrated automation was realized for the customer Krah GmbH.

Outdated system

The automation implemented to date consisted of individual controls from the machine suppliers; there was no integrated automation of the entire plant.

Complex production processes

The line is a spiral extrusion process. A continuous automation system facilitates the operation of such a line enormously.

BSG together with Krah made this possible

Particularly in the case of a complex interaction of all plant components in the production process, a consistent engineering platform across all engineering disciplines is of crucial importance.

End-to-end automation solution

BSG realizes all necessary services as a system supplier from a single source. This includes sales work, where the customer is advised by a competent contact person. The order is entered in a structured manner in the in-house ERP system and then the electrical CAD project planning, PLC project planning and switchgear construction are carried out. Material handling as well as commissioning and production testing of the plant are also handled by BSG. In addition, BSG offers an after-sales service.

Industry 4.0 from Krah

The automation provides all the necessary data for the production management tool from Krah via the central CPU. This tool continuously records all production data from the machine and supplies the machine with the correct setup for the pipe to be produced. This ensures consistent quality and a reduction in scrap, thus helping to conserve resources.

Technology used

The core components of the automation technology are PLC components from Siemens. Components of the latest generation from the S7 1500 family are used. Consistently decentralized technology is used. The field components are coupled to the central CPU via ProfiNet.
